Fall is here and winter and the holiday season are just around the corner. It has be a while since Apex has hosted a workshop regarding how to properly utilize a foam roller for injury prevention and overall wellness. But we’ve had some requests to conduct another workshop soon.

This can be a very busy time of the year and we often focus on doing kind things for others, we all know that staying active through the winter has enormous benefits and is a gift to ourselves.  Please join us on Wednesday, Nov. 29th at 6:30 pm at APEX Physical Therapy in Madras for a Free Workshop on how to properly utilize a Foam Roller and learn other injury prevention/ stress reduction strategies.

Very often, many of use create New Year’s Resolutions that often include some level of exercise or health promotion. Sometime with the best intention, we can take that “New Year’s Resolution” energy and set forth in a new or more challenging mode of fitness. I love that energy. This year, I’d like to offer some help and strategies that can be utilized to reach those fitness and health goals while decreasing risk of pain and expedite recovery.

Many of us have either experienced or witnessed others suffering from painful conditions such as: tendonitis, bursitis, plantar fasciitis, low back pain, neck pain, and joint pain.  Sometimes these conditions can even be a result of trying to do something good for ourselves such as exercising.  This can be super FRUSTRATING!

So… what is a Foam Roller and how can it be helpful?

Foam Rollers come in various dimensions, usually they are 6 inches in diameter and 36 inches long. They can be a very useful tool to help perform self-massage or soft tissue mobilization that can be used in a pain free manner to:

  • Decrease postural strain from sitting for long periods of time
  • Expedite recovery between workouts
  • Prevent overuse injuries
  • Decrease muscle soreness
  • Increase circulation
  • And even provide a great tool for self-assessment of mobility

Come join us at APEX Physical Therapy (230 SW 5th ST, Madras, OR) for a fun-filled workshop where we review proper techniques for Foam Roller use. We will also include strategies to address other common preventable issues such as tendonitis that can occur with activity. There will be detailed handouts available. If you have a foam roller, please bring it. We will have some available at the clinic for demonstration and some available for purchase as well. Each participant will leave with a good understanding of the versatile Foam Roller tool and a water bottle.
